5 delicious Nutella recipes that came out of National Nutella Day20 February 2019
Put down that spoon - there will be no more eating Nutella straight from the jar. This year’s National Nutella Day (Feb 5th) inspired us to enjoy Nutella in remarkable new ways. After all, given the universal love for this gooey chocolate spread, it’s only appropriate to experience Nutella in its full culinary glory, right?
Now, we give it the credit it deserves with everything from explosive cookies to irresistible chocolate cream-cheese sandwiches. Take your pick from the 5 best Nutella recipes that will make it feel like you’re celebrating National Nutella Day, every day.
1. Banana Crêpes with Nutella and Strawberries
Perfect for breakfast, these hearty crepes are delicious with a fruity smoothie or glass of OJ. They’re also a great way of using up overripe bananas. Simply whip up your regular crêpe batter (milk, egg, flour) mash up one or two bananas and scoop a portion of the mixture into a hot oiled pan. Once your crêpe is golden brown, plate up and serve with chopped bananas, fresh strawberries and a generous drizzle of Nutella.
2. Yoghurt and Granola with Nutella and Red berries
Fun to do with the kids, this little yoghurt pot is a great mid-morning snack and doesn’t require any baking. Fill your shallow glass or plastic tumblers ¼ the way with plain granola, dollop a small layer of Nutella on top, then seal with two tablespoons of plain yoghurt. Decorate the top with fresh strawberries, raspberries and cranberries and enjoy a mini taste sensation.
3. Nutella Lava Cookies
If you’re trying to stick to a diet, you might want to skip this one. The warmest, nuttiest, most comforting treat, these cookies are delectable with a glass of warm milk or mug of tea.
Before you begin baking, scoop out a dozen teaspoons of Nutella onto baking paper and let them harden in the fridge for 24 hours. Next, mix up your basic chocolate cookie dough recipe (flour, sugar, eggs, butter, cocoa powder), roll into even-sized balls and place onto a non-stick baking tray. Flatten the dough balls, pop your chilled Nutella scoops on top and seal the dough around each scoop. Bake for 12 minutes and serve warm.
4. Nutella Banana Ice Cream
You’ll fool the kids with this curiously easy recipe. When pulverised in a blender, frozen banana has the same consistency as ice cream. Simply add a few dollops of Nutella into the mixture, blend until smooth, then pour into a plastic tub. Let it freeze for a whole day then get that ice-cream scoop out and enjoy!
5. Baked Nutella & Cream Cheese Sandwich
This one probably sounds horribly bizarre, but bear with us - it’s actually much like a super-quick Nutella cheesecake. Toast two thin slices of soft Italian bread under the grill until golden brown, then spread a scoop of cream cheese over one slice and a layer of Nutella on the other. Pop the two sides together, grill for further few minutes then cut in half and serve with fresh berries and a generous drizzle of Nutella.
