David Lloyd Fitness – Your Local Gym
When the offer was put forward to sample one of the country’s leading fitness centres I jumped at the chance, and I was quickly followed by my fellow sport-loving colleague. We were invited to take advantage of the excellent facilities at our local David Lloyd health club on a blazing hot Saturday in July and, possibly for the first time ever, were seriously excited about the prospect of heading off to the gym at the crack of dawn to complete this David Lloyd review.
We arrived early to be greeted by the friendly staff at reception and quite a fancy, modern interior. The fact the gym was so welcoming had us even more eager to start running, swimming, jumping and training!
Fun and Games
First stop was the indoor tennis courts, of which there were 13 to choose from. We could have played in the outdoor courts but the morning heat got the better of us. After a long stint of showing off our very best Andy Murray impressions we visited the bar area for lunch. The day we chose to do the review just happened to coincide with the spectacular rugby feat when the British and Irish Lions secured their famous third test win against Australia. The bar was fully fitted with large screen TVs (what every sports and fitness fan needs to catch up with professional games) and many David Lloyd members were packed around them whilst tucking into the extensive lunch menu on offer.
Of course, David Lloyd gyms are all about healthy eating and so their cafés and bars are always fully stocked with meals, snacks and drinks to fuel health and fitness fans. We tucked into their nutritious offerings (and enjoyed the match) whilst deciding whether to hit the pool, join a fitness class, or continue to feed our love of racquet sports.
David Lloyd Gyms
After we’d calmed down from all the rugby excitement and allowed our lunch to settle, we made the decision to hit the renowned David Lloyd gym facilities. Each different area of the gym was packed with cutting-edge equipment and ample space to enjoy a good workout. Every piece of equipment was up-to-date and in pristine condition. Whatever type of workout we wanted there was certainly enough choice.
I kicked things off on the treadmills, whilst my colleague hit the weights. Whilst he did chest presses I upped the incline and we both enjoyed the high tech nature of the machines. We noticed some of our fellow workout buddies had a personal trainer by their side instructing them on what to do, how to do it and generally spurring them on. This seemed like a great idea and if I was a full member I’d certainly sign up to the PT programme to fine-tune my fitness regime.
The rest of the David Lloyd fitness suite was very tempting, with benches, bars, rowing machines, bikes and more spread across the floor. After a busy day and with our muscles undoubtedly burning though, we felt the need treat our hardworking bodies to some gentler exercise…
David Lloyd Swimming Pools
We happily took up the chance to relax for a while in either the outdoor or indoor pool. We chose the latter at our David Lloyd gym (and swiftly followed our gentle swim with a relaxing dip in the Jacuzzi).
We all know swimming is a great way to give your whole body a workout and the pools at David Lloyd are plenty big enough for those wanting fast lane swimming as well as anyone doing slower breaststroke. We noticed the swimming timetable had classes for adults and children from lessons to aqua workouts – which are always fun to take part in!
Our David Lloyd Review – The Verdict
