Outfits For A Day At The Races

What to Wear to the Races

Ladies Day at the Races

Heading for a day out at the races? First referenced back in 1711 when Queen Anne spotted the potential for a race horse, Ladies Day has now become a day in the racing calendar that is as much about the fashion as it is about the horses.

If you are looking for an exciting day out with the girls then look no further, whether you are on the hunt for the perfect hen party or just want to schedule in an event with your dearest gal pals Ladies Day is the perfect day out to have a few glasses of fizz and don your finest clothing. Plus, you may even return home with a few more pounds than you left with!

Where and When is Ladies Day?

There are many ladies day around the country, the big three are Cheltenham, Ascot and The Grand National at Aintree. It’s worth checking out your nearest racecourse as most host a Ladies Day.

The Grand National Ladies Day (Aintree Ladies Day)

When: Early April

Dress Code: No official dress code. Smart is preferable and hats are optional. No sports clothes or fancy dress.

Cheltenham Ladies Day

When: Mid March

Ascot Ladies Day

Outfits for a Day at the Races

Although most of the Ladies Days don’t have official dress code, the general look to go for is smart and chic. We’ve hunted out the best high street dresses, shoes and headwear (that look a lot more costly than their price tag) to give you some head to toe inspiration on what to wear on the day.

The Midi Dress

We love a midi dress here at vouchercloud HQ – so chic. A mid-length dress has you covered (quite literally) if the British weather doesn’t play ball.  Coast has got to be the go-to high street store for classy threads – we love the abstract print pattern on the dress from them below.

Dare to be different and wear a jumpsuit to the day. The ultimate piece of clothing in the style stakes, a jumpsuit gives an air of understated cool that is both practical and elegant.

From a floral print in silk to a lace overlay there is a wide array of jumpsuits on the high street such as these beauties below!

When it comes to footwear, bear in mind that you are going to a) be on your feet most of the day and b) wandering on grass that very possibly may have been rained on – oh British weather joy.

We suggest either a block heel or a wedge which will offer more comfort and less getting stuck in the mud moments.

Lets be honest the amazing headwear is as much of a spectacle as the races themselves. Although not enforced as part of the dress code to most races, when else do you get to wear a fancy hat or fascinator? Feel like a total lady and sport one of these chic head pieces below to make your outfit complete.
