Rating – 4/5
Stopping in on a Monday lunchtime, we expected a relatively quiet restaurant and were surprised at how abuzz Frankie and Benny’s was with midday diners. However, with the great amount of staff available we were seated in no time.
Frankie & Benny’s has a warm, cosy and friendly atmosphere. With it’s wonderful American diner style booths, ceiling fans and venetian blinds – the kitsch décor and the background track of classic 50’s tunes creates the ambiance an old school Italian-American Family Restaurant.
It really feels like a step back in time, a time where excellent service from staff was a must and our waiter certainly didn’t disappoint. For the duration of the meal he was extremely friendly and was taking the amount of diners in his stride seemingly attentive to all diners, including ourselves, throughout the meal.
BBQ Chicken, Sweetcorn & Cheddar Loaded Potato Skins
The menu (a rather extensive book!) boasts a wide variety of classic dishes from start to finish such as bruschetta and doughballs to start. A variety delicious pizzas, cheese-oozing calzones, filling pastas and sizzling steaks to name just a few of the mains on offer and for dessert ice creams, brownies, sundaes, waffles, apple pie and more. There was such a wide variety it was hard to choose!
Choosing what to order was possibly the hardest part of the whole meal but once we had, our food was before us in no time. The loaded potato skins were absolutely delicious, crispy on the outside and full to the brim with BBQ-chicken goodness.
Classic Beef Burger, Fries and Tomato Relish
New York Crunchy Salad
BBQ Chicken Wrap with Fries
Between courses our waiter gave us the option of taking a little rest to let the food go down before moving onto mains but my burger was calling me, so straight on to the mains we went! All mains were a great size. Both the wrap and the salad looked delicious and although they looked very tempting I have to say I’m glad I chose the burger. It had a great smoky flavour to it and the tomato relish complimented it perfectly. It was agreed by all that the accompanying chips were also delicious.
Brownies & Ice Cream
Aunt Carla’s Real Dairy Ice Cream
After two courses and even though we were rather full, we just had to make room for dessert – Brownies? Ice Cream? Our sweet tooths got the better of us. Presentation of the brownies was great but they tasted even better.
I couldn’t possibly have eaten another thing but the trio of ice cream but Stef assures me they were delicious!
Full to the brim, we wandered back out in the daylight; returning to the modern day and quite sad to leave the warm 1950s behind. We all agreed the variety on the menu superb, the staff welcoming and the food delicious.
I don’t think it will be too long before we all venture back!
