Weather in Rome

Known as the “Eternal city” Rome is arguably the most famous tourist destination on the planet. Having played a crucial role in shaping world history, today Rome is home to attractions like the Coliseum, the Roman Aqueducts, the Trevi Fountain, and the Vatican. But, it’s not just history you will find here. When in Rome, you will see hundreds of wild cats climbing the Coliseum walls or sleeping amongst the ruins as there is a law from 1991 that allows cats to live without disruption in the place they were born!

This crown city of Italy, in the heart of the Mediterranean, is also home to some of the best weather in the world. Temperature in Rome is good all year round, without severe winters or suffocating summers. So, if you are like many others, are planning a much-needed holiday to this unforgettable location, you might be wondering when to visit. Our weather guide below has everything you need to know to plan your very own Roman holiday.

The Weather in Rome

The months of June, July and August are undeniably the best time to visit Rome. With temperatures hovering around 24 degrees Centigrade, you will be comfortable in t-shirts and shorts, without getting too hot and sweaty. With no need for air conditioning during the day or heat in the night, you can count on being comfortable. Plus, each of these months historically has only about 5 days of light rain each year. So packing an umbrella or raincoat won’t be a worry, and your day trips aren’t likely to be spoiled by uncooperative weather.

The worst months to travel to Rome, however, (for those who hate the cold) are December through March, when temperatures fall to around 8-10 degrees centigrade. So if you don’t like bundling up and braving the cold, wait until the springtime thaw begins before heading off to see Rome. What’s more, November through March is also the wettest months, with about 15 days of rain each November and upwards of 13 rainy days each month until March.
