08 March 2019

Whether you want to go near or far for International Women’s Day 2019 - here’s our roundup of cool events and annual traditions to do your womanhood justice this year and always.

From mimosa flowers in Italy to parades around Paris - we take a look at how UK cities and other countries champion International Women’s Day in their own way, and how you can join in on the fun. With sweet travel and accommodation discounts from us, you’ll be able to fill your diary without emptying your wallet this IWD.

Be bold in Bristol

Voted in 2017 as Britain’s best city to live in - Bristol is also well-known for its fearless stance on feminism. As vouchercloud was born and bred in Bristol, we thought we’d start on our own turf.

You’ll find the main events at City Hall, where Bristol Women’s Voice group invites all women to enjoy more than 30 insightful and eclectic events. Running from the 2nd March - you can expect a vibrant selection of panel discussions, one-woman theatrical performances plus talks and workshops on maternity rights and menopause - this annual celebration is a cool way to connect with women from all walks of life.

For pocket and eco-friendly transport solutions, you can look to National Express coaches and National Rail Services.

Go louder in London

As expected, London has racked up informative and expressive events on the run up to 8th March and over the weekend too. Tap into your confidence in the workplace and day to day with the selection of workshops and talks available around the city.

From the ‘Women in Food’ panel to the teenage-focused (school years 10-13) IWD event In Wimbledon, led by EverGirl - proof that women of all ages and lifestyles can #balanceforbetter however it works for them.

Channel your Shea in Shoreditch

Dame Anita Roddick founded The Body Shop on an ethical business model when the first shop opened in Brighton 1976. This is still present and shining today as The Body Shop strives to support women in different communities around the world. Lucky for us, it’s hosting a series of funky activities to hail female empowerment this IWD weekend on the 9th & 10th March.

In Shoreditch, East London, there will be a ‘Self-care Sanctuary’, ticketed talks, yoga classes and wonder workshops to enjoy as well as an exhibition featuring the bright work of illustrator Laura Callaghan. Named, ‘A She in Every Shea’, Callaghan’s work is a celebration of the Ghanaian female communities that have been supplying The Body Shop with the core ingredient behind one of its bestselling lines - Shea Butter - for over 25 years.

Feel the power in Paris

Head to Paris, France this IWD to enjoy a series of flamboyant events which will highlight the continued efforts of women fighting for equal rights around the world. Expect streets full of vivacious debates, demonstrations and even introductory sessions to Aikido Sport.

The fun does not stop there. The entire weekend celebrates talented women and worldly culture. There will be a series of female-led concerts at the Pan Piper venue, while on Sunday 10th March you’ll find many women spreading their voices by motorbike across the whole of France with the Toutes en Moto ride.

Book a last-minute flight with TUI or easyjet and get involved.

Do it like Le Donne

Italy’s outlook on women is steadily becoming more equal and respectful. It’s tribute to International Women’s Day -  better known in Italy as ‘Festa della donna - is more traditional but still quite lovely. The day is both widely recognised and celebrated with sweet yellow bouquets of mimosa flowers. Men offer mimosas to women, but more importantly, women offer these to close female friends and family members, as a sign of strength, support and respect.

Be Zealous in New Zealand

The ‘You Go Girl!’ Seminar for women in New Zealand definitely warrants a long-haul flight. Designed to inspire and help women overcome difficult setbacks, this is sure to refocus your determination so you can look forward to your very awesome future as a woman.

Grab a plane ticket and grab a friend- wherever you choose to celebrate International Women’s Day this year - do it like a champion.
