Winter home decor trends & top tips for hibernation

11 December 2018

It wasn’t easy looking forward to a time when Hygge living and grey everything wouldn’t be trending, but it’s been confirmed, and we’re ready for something new from home decor trends.

Bold looks, a little nostalgia and colour (lots of colour) currently adorn the mood boards of top Interior Designer influencers. It’s about creating your own zen. Tis the season after all, and who wants minimal in the bleak-midwinter? There’s every reason for you to start introducing fresh trends to your space for the New Year, and here’s how.

Grey be Gone

?Soft grey is over and when you’re in search of a neutral colour which isn’t called ‘magnolia’, you can warm up your space with burnt vanilla and woody tones.

Layer different tones and go for pattern if you can - soft yet sleek - whether you’re painting the walls or freshening up home accessories and furnishings - caramel neutrals will pull your room’s vibe together perfectly.

Should you get rid of grey completely? Not necessarily, but you can work with what you have and incorporate brights to add instant interest.

Perfect your Passamenterie

This trend crept in this 2018 and trims, frills and granny-worthy tie-backs are making a comeback. Go for rich and bright colours to ensure that your space stays edgy.

Cushion covers and rugs are popular contenders for this trend. H&M and are just a couple of brands ahead of the game, stocking home furnishings that will effortlessly pull your gaze towards the most interesting aspects of your space.

Energise blank grey walls with elaborate 3D canvases, or jazz up a love seat with bright and textured throws. There’s no need to over-do it - an accent of this undefying decorative feature is enough to make your space very sprightly.

Teal Time

Colours are rich and bright, worthy of the Queen herself. The likes of Graham & Brown are even looking to Regal Teal as the wall colour for 2019, and we’re happy with that.

Perfectly paired with mustard, or a dusty rose for a softer contrast - there’s nothing like it to keep your spirits bright this season and well into 2019.

Go for Gold

With regal tones working wonders on spaces big and small - gold features in pendant lighting and other accessories are the ideal companion to add mid-century interest to your modern living space. Curb your obsession with copper and invest in instant lustre with gold or even a mixture of metals.

Think photo frames, gold plated mirrors, the legs of a new armchair or of a geometric coffee table - this is the secret to creating a period style feel to your home, with a twist.

Crush on Velvet

Fabric-wise - although it was never really out - velvet is well and truly in. Crushed or not, just a few touches of this decadent fabric to your space is enough.

The addition of simple cushion covers from the likes of H&M home can work wonders on a chilly room. While Wayfair and Argos have lush velvet upholstered armchairs and more available in quaint pastel colours that are sure to bring comfort and joy this Christmas.

Colourful and comfortable surroundings go hand in hand this season. With M&S, IKEA, and many other home retailers all on the ball with the best decor to get you through the soggy season - there’s no better time to try out the latest interior design trends than over the festive period.
