Since the first Master Moneyer was appointed for England in 1279, the Royal Mint has been in operation, and the sole provider of UK currency since 1540. The Royal Mint is now the world’s leading export mint, making coins and medals for an average of 60 countries per year, including all domestic coinage for the United Kingdom. Opened by the Queen in 1968 in preparation for decimal coinage, the Royal Mint’s headquarters are in Llantrisant, South Wales, and it produces 90 million coins and blanks a week - almost five billion coins a year.

The most technically advanced minting facility in the world, the Royal Mint now boasts The Royal Mint Experience – an exhibition dedicated to all things coin, as well as an extensive shop allowing you to fulfill all of your rare coin needs.
