About Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo is one of the best-loved family attractions in this historic city. Everyone loves a trip to the zoo and if you and the kids have had your fill of gruesome history and museums, head out of the city and spend the day at this fantastic zoo. There is more than eighty acres of scenic parkland to explore, thousands of animals to get to know in natural settings, and with plenty of activities and events throughout the year, you certainly won’t be bored! You can even save some cash on your tickets if you look for an Edinburgh Zoo discount code on vouchercloud. What’s holding you back? Go ahead and plan your trip to this amazing zoo.

Did you know?

Edinburgh Zoo is the only zoo in the UK where you can see Giant Pandas and Koalas in captivity. There are two Giant Pandas at Edinburgh Zoo: Tian Tian, (‘Sweetie’) and Yang Guang (‘Sunshine’), who are both on long-term loan from China. To see the Giant Pandas, you need to book your place in advance, as space is limited. Alternatively, check the Panda Cam!

The zoo has three Koalas. The two males are called Goonaroo and Yabbra, and the female is Alinga. You can meet the Koalas in the Koala Territory.

Aside from the must-see Giant Pandas and Koalas, the Penguins Rock exhibit is always very cool. Edinburgh Zoo’s outdoor penguin pool is the largest in Europe. There are mock sandy beaches and plenty of rocks where the penguins can laze around and pretend to be supermodels. There is even a diving board! If you time your visit well, you can see the Penguin Parade! Naturally, with Edinburgh a bit chilly for much of the year, the penguins feel right at home.

More About Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo voucher banner

Edinburgh Zoo first opened its doors to the public in 1913. Its mission was - and still is - to connect the public with animals and safeguard vulnerable species from extinction. Today, it manages both of these aims admirably and 800,000 people visit the zoo every year to see the animals, learn more about rare and endangered specials, and have a fun day out.

There is so much to see and do at Edinburgh Zoo that it’s no wonder the zoo has earned an impressive four stars from Visit Scotland. You can visit the zoo 365 days of the year, although you may find some attractions close over winter to allow for essential maintenance work (check the zoo’s website for further details of closures). Don’t forget to check out our Edinburgh Zoo vouchers so you can save money on your tickets.

Edinburgh Zoo has a world-class educational programme in place, so it would be remiss of us not to suggest that you make time to listen to some of the education talks scheduled on a daily basis. Talks take place every fifteen minutes or so, at various exhibits within the zoo. Since you won’t be able to listen to all of them, decide in advance which talks are of most interest to you and plan your visit accordingly.
