Top European Destinations Where Your GBP Goes Further

So you’ve booked a cheap holiday, saved a bunch on flights... but you head to the bureau de change to find the exchange rate’s not in your favour. We know the feeling. That’s why we’ve unearthed the European destinations where your GBP will go further.

Holidays can be expensive these days, with the GBP at a 27 month low against the USD, holidays to certain hotspots can leave belts uncomfortably tightened. But it doesn’t have to be this way! We’ve examined the fluctuations of the 25 different European currencies to find the destinations where your GBP will get you more than it did on January 1st 2019.

Whether you fancy heading to an actual Turkish spa, Swedish massage, Georgian river hike or Moldovan winery, our research shows you needn’t lose out when booking your next holiday.

As you might expect, Eastern Europe has performed well here, with beautiful Georgia coming 1st thanks to the GBP's 2.83% increase in value against the Georgian lari this year. The ever popular Turkey comes in 3rd, whilst rank outsider Moldova (next door to Romania, fact fans) comes in 4th, both currencies holding steady against the GBP.

Surprisingly, upmarket Sweden features too, thanks to the GBP's strong performance against the krona (worth 2.43% more). Those majestic fjords, urbane cities and remarkable people will be cheaper to visit than ever!

"Despite the fluctuating value of GBP, the British public are always on the hunt for a bargain - particularly with their holidays. We were delighted to find numerous desirable European destinations where the Pound is still going further.

What's especially intriguing is the range of destinations — from beach holidays in Turkey to the stunning culture of Georgia and the cities of Sweden, you've got so many options for a savings-conscious holiday. You just have to know where to look!"

Worst Currencies

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows when you’re booking your sunny, rainbow-filled getaway. A fair few European destinations have gained 5% or more in value against the GBP since last year. So if you’re heading up the Swiss Alps, the Russian palaces or the ancient history of Israel, get ready to be hit where it hurts.
