More about Wookey Hole Caves
??
Wookey Hole Caves were forged at the beginning of time, carved out by an underground river making its way to the surface. In prehistoric times, the people who make their home in this part of the world would have used Wookey Hole Caves as their home. Because they are so deep underground, they are safe, warm, and far more comfortable than you might imagine. Sure, it’s only about 11 degrees Celsius down there, but that’s pretty warm in the middle of winter!
It wasn’t until 1914 that the Wookey Hole cave system became a visitor attraction. People came to see the amazing underground caverns, marvel at how the caves were formed, and wonder what spooky goings on occurred deep underground, away from the prying eyes of man. Today, the Wookey Hole Caves have grown from a simple cave system into a world-famous attraction. The beautiful caverns and tunnels are the main attraction, but there is also plenty more to see and do – for a good deal look out for vouchercloud Wookey Hole Caves discounts and special offers.
The Cave Museum tells you all you need to know about the history of the area, including the tale of how a Benedictine monk exorcised the Witch of Wookey Hole. You can meet the resident Wookey Witch, but check the Wookey Hole Caves website in advance to find out when she is due to appear in her cave. The Daily Telegraph named this awesome attraction “the most incredible caves in the world!” Not convinced? Come along to see what all the fuss is about.
