The grand building that now houses the Celtic Manor Resort dates back to the 1860s when it was the home of prominent coal and iron trader Thomas Powell Jr. After a spell as a maternity hospital from the 1940s through to 1975, it was eventually converted into a hotel in 1982 and began hosting golf tournaments the following decades. Since then the resort has become renowned as one of the world’s leading pro golfing venues and has hosted prestigious golf tournaments and events including the Wales Open and the Ryder Cup.
